Developing female bloom surrounded by open male fl
The male flowers typically open first on lychees. This closeup of a bloom panicle shows several male flowers, characterized by six pollen bearing stamen, surrounding a female flower that has just recently set a fruit.
You will notice that the ovary of the set fruit is just beginning to swell and the pistillate surface is beginning to deteriorate.
